'ROLL BACK THE CLOCK' IN THE SHADE

Retractable shade systems have been added to the Beaumont Bowling Club in Adelaide’s eastern suburbs, enhancing comfort and usability for members.

Following upgrades to the club’s facilities, members can now ‘roll back the clock’ in the comfort of new retractable shades. Burnside Mayor Anne Monceaux commented, “Funded by the club and with Council support, these new shades were designed and installed by Shadeform. They retract and can be used as needed — as they will be tomorrow.”

To protect bowlers from the harsh Australian sun and maximise year-round use, Beaumont Bowling Club chose the popular Shaderunner® retractable shade system. The site required a durable, easy-to-operate solution capable of spanning the 36.5-metre ends of the green — a challenge well-suited to the flexible Shaderunner® PRO system.

Shaderunner® Australia designed, manufactured, and installed six retractable shade systems — three linked shades on each end of the green. The design featured a narrower 2.15 m shade near the clubhouse and a wider 3.5 m double-sided shade covering Greens B and C. Each was angled 3° north to achieve the requested shade footprint, verified through a detailed 3D shade study and engineering review.

Engineering allowed each linked Shaderunner® system to span the full 36.5 metres, delivering a combined 210 m² of retractable shade on demand.

The system includes four steel T-posts finished with a two-pack paint system, engineered footings, and marine-grade stainless-steel wires, pulleys, and fittings for long-term strength and stability.

Each fabric sail can be independently extended or retracted using a low-friction cord system. Custom yachting-grade ball-bearing pulleys ensure smooth operation and long-lasting reliability with minimal maintenance.

Offering convenience and flexibility, the Shaderunner® system combines superior UV protection, adjustable shade, and sleek aesthetics for year-round comfort.

Shaderunner® fabrics are tested for durability and performance, available in 95 % woven polyester mesh or waterproof PVC — all mould-resistant and offered in a wide colour range.

The system is easy for one person to operate, with low-friction movement enabling smooth extension and retraction for precise shade control.
