Over the 50-metre competition pool, a series of 8 Shaderunner® systems were installed, providing extendable shade coverage of up to 33 metres across the width of the pool. There are 4 Shaderunners® on each side of the pool that extend towards the centre, traveling on marine grade stainless steel wires to a central spreader bar.</p>

<p>Being on the 22<sup>nd</sup> floor, the roof top bar affords enviable views of the cityscape towards the Adelaide Hills and is the perfect way to unwind after a hard day sharing a drink with friends or colleagues. Being so high up and with no natural cover, the outdoor bar terrace required additional shade to provide bar patrons with respite from the harsh sun during the warmer months.</p>

<p>The solution was to install 2 x RTS motorised Shaderunner® Retractable Sail Systems to extend the use of the outdoor bar terrace by providing variable shade on demand. By having twin retractable Shaderunner® systems, greater flexibility is provided for users of the space, with full or partial shading as and when required.</p>
<p>Most Shaderunners feature an easy to use manually operated endless cord system but, increasing in popularity is the option to have remote motorised control. The Shaderunners® at West Franklin Apartments are controlled by remote control with an Somfy RTS Motor for each system housed in a slimline powdercoated headbox. Further automation is provided with the wind sensor, designed to retract the Shaderunners® during higher winds.</p>

<p>The Shaderunner is manufactured from durable components, including marine grade 316 stainless steel fittings and Ronstan yachting ball bearing pulleys. As a result, the Shaderunner provides a robust retractable shade solution for a range of commercial and domestic applications. Using high quality components, most Shaderunner systems require only 2 x stainless steel running wires on which the Shaderunner fabric extends and retracts. Being up high on the 22<sup>nd</sup> floor, additional running wires were included for this application to provide extra strength and support. Further to this a series of weighted down tubes were added to each fabric panel, which serves to lessen wind action on the retracted Shaderunners under extreme wind events, reducing the occurrence of fabric wear in windier areas.</p>

At the West Franklin Apartments, the Shaderunners were manufactured from Outlook 95% Polyester Mesh fabric in the colour ‘Graystone’, providing excellent shade and glare reduction with a contemporary look. The Shaderunner can also be manufactured from waterproof PVC for a weatherproof solution, requiring side fall to shed water.</p>
<p>With the addition of these the Shaderunner® Retractable Sail systems, this invaluable outdoor space now has the benefit of controllable shade on demand, providing thermal comfort to patrons of the bar and residents as and when required.</p>

<p>With extensions over twenty metres, the Shaderunner® is able to span wide sections of pool area, without intrusive support structure and poles beneath the shaded space. With the use of a simple pulley system and manual winch, the Shaderunner® can be fully retracted when desired, providing the option of opening up the pool space and allowing much needed natural sunlight on cooler days. At Canowindra in New South Wales, a recent upgrade to the swimming pool required a contemporary yet sympathetic retractable shade solution. The pools span was over 24 metres, so twin Shaderunner® Retractable Sails were utilised, running on the same cables but drawing to the centre of the pool – a feature that can be utilised to cover very large spaces.</p>

<p>At the Miami Aquatic Centre, Hutchinson Builders was engaged as head contractor and, together with the Shaderunner® Australia design team, engineering was performed to enable a series of Shaderunners® to span between column centres of up to 36 metres on either side of the main pool.</p>

Over the 50-metre competition pool, a series of 8 Shaderunner® systems were installed, providing extendable shade coverage of up to 33 metres across the width of the pool. There are 4 Shaderunners® on each side of the pool that extend towards the centre, traveling on marine grade stainless steel wires to a central spreader bar.</p>

<p>Over the Zero Depth Splash Pad, a further 4 Shaderunner® systems provide controllable shade for this interactive playspace. With 2 Shaderunners® on each side, the systems can be extended to provide a total coverage of 31 metres, providing welcome shade for children and parents alike.</p>
<p>With each shade being 6.1-metres wide, these 12 large Shaderunner® systems provide a mammoth twelve hundred square metres of retractable shade on demand! Each Shaderunner® runs along four high tensile, stainless-steel support wires, using special custom-made marine grade, ball bearing yachting pulleys. These glide along the stainless wires, making for a simple and friction-free operation. The aluminium cross tracks support the fabric laterally.</p>

<p>An endless control cord, which is pulled in either direction to extend or retract the Shaderunner®, leads down to a stainless-steel self-cleating yachting winch, for ease of use and effortless operation. A lockable hinged cover plate covers the cleating mechanism to prevent public access.</p>

The fabric used is a mould-resistant and durable polyester mesh, with 95 percent block-out of harmful UV rays. The clients chose white to complement their facility design. The Shaderunners® can be independently set at full extension or at any position on the wires, to give the required amount of shade at any given time.</p>

<p>Being on the 22<sup>nd</sup> floor, the roof top bar affords enviable views of the cityscape towards the Adelaide Hills and is the perfect way to unwind after a hard day sharing a drink with friends or colleagues. Being so high up and with no natural cover, the outdoor bar terrace required additional shade to provide bar patrons with respite from the harsh sun during the warmer months.</p>

<p>The solution was to install 2 x RTS motorised Shaderunner® Retractable Sail Systems to extend the use of the outdoor bar terrace by providing variable shade on demand. By having twin retractable Shaderunner® systems, greater flexibility is provided for users of the space, with full or partial shading as and when required.</p>
<p>Most Shaderunners feature an easy to use manually operated endless cord system but, increasing in popularity is the option to have remote motorised control. The Shaderunners® at West Franklin Apartments are controlled by remote control with an Somfy RTS Motor for each system housed in a slimline powdercoated headbox. Further automation is provided with the wind sensor, designed to retract the Shaderunners® during higher winds.</p>

<p>The Shaderunner is manufactured from durable components, including marine grade 316 stainless steel fittings and Ronstan yachting ball bearing pulleys. As a result, the Shaderunner provides a robust retractable shade solution for a range of commercial and domestic applications. Using high quality components, most Shaderunner systems require only 2 x stainless steel running wires on which the Shaderunner fabric extends and retracts. Being up high on the 22<sup>nd</sup> floor, additional running wires were included for this application to provide extra strength and support. Further to this a series of weighted down tubes were added to each fabric panel, which serves to lessen wind action on the retracted Shaderunners under extreme wind events, reducing the occurrence of fabric wear in windier areas.</p>

At Canowindra in New South Wales, a recent upgrade to the swimming pool required a contemporary yet sympathetic retractable shade solution.
